Altamont Senior Citizens
ALTAMONT — The Altamont Senior Citizens will host their fellowship meat at noon Thursday, March 27, at the center in downtown Altamont. The menu is a baked potato bar with all the toppings and Fruit Salad.
On Friday, March 28, at 9 a.m. is breakfast and bingo hosted by the Presbyterian Manor of Parsons.
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. the group hosts strength and balancing, a 30-minute exercise program. Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. is the age 60 plus nutrition meal (please call by 3 p.m. the day prior to reserve your meal). Tuesday is bring your craft day from 1 to 4 p.m., and Wednesday is game day from 1 to 4 p.m. The seniors sponsor a library club on the second Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Altamont Library.
Burn ban remains
Because of the continued extreme fire danger related to dry weather and high wind, Labette County will remain under a burn ban until further notice. Low relative humidity and above normal temperatures are fueling the situation.

LCHS alumni banquet is May 3
ALTAMONT — The Labette County High School alumni banquet will be at noon on Saturday, May 3, in the high school cafeteria. The meal will be served at noon with the program to follow. Tickets are on sale at Labette Bank in Altamont and Parsons, ACE Hardware in Parsons, or by contacting Janie Stice at 620-330-0048. Tickets are $12 each and must be purchased by Friday, April 19.

Hummingbird landscaping
CHANUTE — If you are a hummingbird lover, mark your calendar for Monday, March 24. An educational workshop on landscaping for hummingbirds will be at 6 p.m. in the Alliance Room of the Chanute Memorial Building, 101 S. Lincoln, Chanute. The featured speaker will be Chuck Otte, an avid birder, naturalist and author. The program is sponsored by the Southwind Extension District and is free to the public. Register by March 21 by calling 620-2443826.
Parsons Livestock Auction
On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,240 cattle.
Choice cows 141-153, canners- cutters 132-141, shelly cows 131 and down, bred cows up to $2,600, pairs up to $3,250; choice bulls 190-202, lower grades 189 and down.
Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 360-500; 400-500, 340-430; 500-600, 300-392; 600-700, 233-245; 700-800, 254-315; 800 and over, 210-279.
Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 331-432; 400-500, 330-400; 500-600, 280-338; 600-700, 250-300; 700-800, 240-270; 800 and over, 210-252.
