McClain to talk about research

Gabe McClain, a graduate teaching assistant at Pittsburg State University, will give a presentation for the Southeast Kansas Audubon Society at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, on his research of the prothonotary warbler.

According to McClain, “The prothonotary warbler is a neotropical migrant known to nest in secondary cavities found near slow-moving or standing water. They have seen steady declines since the 1960s within their core range but populations are increasing or remaining steady throughout Kansas and the western portion of their range. We will learn about prothonotary warbler history, explore the possible mechanisms behind their unique population trends and outline future research designed to learn more about these western prothonotary warbler populations.”

The meetings are at the Parsons Arboretum, 2004 Briggs, at the corner of 21st and Briggs in Glenwood Park in Parsons. The public is invited and refreshments will be served following the program.
