Workers used cutting tools to open an area around a 10 inch water pipe that starts in the city of Chetopa’s concrete intake tower at the Neosho River. Workers were then to install a new PVC connection from the intake up the hill to a newer waterline that then took water to the city’s pump house for treatment. W&W Backhoe and Trenching of Mound Valley was digging up the waterline above the intake tower and making the new connections. The final cost of the project was not known at deadline. On Memorial Day weekend last year, the waterline that moves water from the river failed and crews scrambled to get a temporary fix in place. This work on Monday was putting in place a final fix for the problem. Ray Nolting/Sun photo
