Beekeepers to meet
INDEPENDENCE — The Montgomery County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at Independence Community College West, 2615 W. Main St., in Independence. Joli Winer and Cecil Sweeney of Northeast Kansas Beekeepers Association will present the program.
Hive inspections can be challenging for beekeepers, especially those new to the adventure. Joli and Cecil will present ways to accomplish this as well as frame placement within the hive. They will also talk about making splits, to increase the apiary and, hopefully, deter swarming. They are owners of Heartland Honey, Spring Hill, where they sell honey, creamed honey, homemade soaps, lotions, lip balms, etc.
Sunday country breakfast
BARTLETT — The Bartlett Community Church will host a country breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 6.
All donated proceeds from this breakfast will go to the Hackberry Township Fire Department to support the fire and rescue services they provide the community. Hackberry Township Fire Department is located in Bartlett and is served by volunteers.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet menu will feature homemade sausage gravy served with biscuits, hash browns, scrambled eggs, egg casseroles, ham, sausage, fresh fruit, breakfast sweets, donuts, homemade cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice and milk.
The public is invited to attend. Carryout will be available for those who do not want to dine in. The church is located at 712 Main on the south side of Bartlett. In case of severe weather conditions, call 620-423-1789 or 620-778-4635 to check for cancellation.
Farmers Market meeting
The next meeting about the Farmers Market in Parsons will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, at the Kansas State Research Center at 25092 Ness Road, Parsons.
This meeting is to answer any questions and give input on the direction and growth of the Parsons Farmers Market. Vendor agreements, food safety guidelines and sales tax event registration certificates will be available.
Evergy talk set
On Thursday, April 3, Evergy representatives will be at the Parsons Public Library from 2 to 6 p.m., talking about new energy efficiency programs designed to help Evergy customers in Parsons and across Kansas save money and energy.
Customers can enroll in Evergy’s thermostat program and a get a free Google Nest or ecobee thermostat with a rebate, get rebates when they upgrade to energy efficient appliances or upgrade insulation and air sealing in their home.
