Oswego archers qualify for national tournament

Thank you for the article in the paper. I unfortunately left a couple people out. Is there any way they can be mentioned somehow in your next paper? Matthias Shaw should have been mentioned in the top three that received a trophy for bullseye. Bryson Royer should have been mentioned as one of the people that qualified for nationals in Bullseye.

The Oswego USD 504 archery teams competed at the state tournament in Hutchinson on Saturday.

The top three teams were awarded team trophies. The top three individuals were awarded trophies. Coach Neal Cruse said Oswego students brought home 17 individual trophies and four team first place trophies. Students finishing in the top three and winning trophies were: Skyler Neblett, bullseye, first; Oakley Gatton, bullseye, second; Teagan Davis, 3D, first, bullseye, third; Odalys Santana, bullseye, first; Jazlyn Folk, bullseye, third, 3D, first; Michael Varner, bullseye, first, 3D, first; Amelia Head, bullseye, first; Matthias Shaw, bullseye, second; Chloe Rhodenbaugh, bullseye, second, 3D, first; Brooklyn Hazell, bullseye, third; Elizabeth Dalton, 3D, second; Axton Myers, bullseye, first and overall state champion; Chance Mills, 3D, third.

“We had a tremendous day. Our kids really showed up and performed at a high level. I can’t be prouder of all our kids. We also won several dollars in scholarships on the day. Anyone that finished in the top three won scholarships. Our teams that won also were awarded scholarship money,” Cruse said.

Other coaches are Briston Kapler, Nic Johnson, Keith Hazell, Mike Dalton, Jason Higgins, Linseh Johnson and Joe Fuller.

Archers who qualified for nationals as individuals are Skyler Neblett BE, Oakley Gatton BE and 3D, Teagan Davis BE, Odalys Santana BE, Cage Miller BE, Bryson Royer BE, Jazlyn Folk BE, Xitlally Santana BE, Aralynn Tun BE, Amelia Head BE and 3D, Michael Varner BE and 3D, Matthias Shaw BE and 3D, Chloe Rhodenbaugh BE and 3D, Brooklyn Hazell BE and 3D, Andelyn Johnson BE and 3D, Amelia Owens BE, Axel Santana BE and 3D, Jr. Martin BE, Axton Myers BE, Chance Mills BE and 3D, Jazlyn Folk 3D, Stephen House 3D, Odalys Santana 3D, Elizabeth Dalton 3D, Teazly Higgins 3D.

Elementary Bullseye team scored 2,903 and earned place. This was the best score ever shot in the history of Oswego’s elementary program, Cruse said. By winning state, the elementary team qualified for the national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

Middle school Bullseye team scored 3,246 and earned first. This was also the best score of the middle school team, which also qualified for nationals.

The elementary 3D team scored 1,324 and finished first. The middle school 3D team scored 1,602 and finished first. The high school 3D team scored 1,471 and finished ninth.
