
John S. Spears, 87, of Parsons died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1937, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Ivan O. and Madge M. (Lone) Spears. John grew up in Beech Grove and graduated from Beech Grove High School and from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree.
John had worked for International Harvester Trucking Division in Indianapolis, Indiana, Beech Grove, Indiana, Florence, Kentucky, and Kansas City. He enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling.
He married Doris I. Harmon; she preceded him in death in December 2002. He married Mary A. (Cook) McGuire on April 3, 2004, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his son, Joseph A. Spears (Roxane) of Kearney, Missouri; grandchildren, Miranda Rash (Joe) of Smithville, Missouri, Michelle Pulliam (Alex) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Nathan Spears of Kearney, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Rash and Kaiden Pulliam; also Mary’s sons, Michael McGuire (Lorie) of Erie and Jason Mc-Guire (Cheynet) of Toganoxie; a granddaughter, Lily McGuire; and his beloved cats, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John S. Spears Jr. in 2007; and his brother, Jerry L. Spears in 1987.
The celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Randy Blackwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests Kansas City Chiefs attire or casual dress for the service.
