Pickleball tourney to benefit family
Labette Community College’s communication students, Conner Westhoff and Matthew Marcum, are hosting Rally for a Cure Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, May 3, at Forest Park tennis courts in Parsons. The event will raise money to offset the cost of leukemia treatments for 9-year-old Landon Roberson of Cherryvale.
Landon is in remission but continues treatment to prevent recurrence. His maintenance phase of chemotherapy will last until February 2026, requiring frequent hospital visits to Kansas City. “While the journey has been long, Landon remains in good spirits, staying active and enjoying school, friends and hobbies like RC cars and LEGOs,” said Landon’s mother, Christina.
The tournament features men’s and women’s doubles brackets, each limited to the first 24 teams that register. Registration is $20 per person/$40 per team. The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 30. All participants must pre-register and pay online by visiting labette.edu and clicking the Rally for a Cure Pickleball Tournament poster.
Check-in for men begins at 8 a.m. and check-in for women begins at noon. Play will start shortly after check-in. This double elimination tournament will take place across six courts. Participants must bring their own equipment.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams in each bracket. Monetary donations to support the Roberson family will also be accepted on the day of the tournament.
