Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.
MONDAY: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., AARP tax assistance; 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 6 p.m., bingo for all ages.
TUESDAY: 10 a.m., sensory hour for ages birth to 3; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.
WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m., story hour for ages 2 to 6; 4 p.m., afternoon story hour for ages 2 to 6.
THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Let’s Cook: Quesadillas for ages 10 to 18; 6 p.m., AI to Infinity and Beyond class for all ages.
FRIDAY, APRIL 18: 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.

Book discussion set April 28
Sister Rosemary Kolich will lead a discussion of the book “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter” by Erika L. Sanchez at 6 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Parsons Public Library, 311 S. 17th St.
According to the summary of the book, perfect Mexican daughters don’t go away to college.
And they do not move out of their parents’ house after high school graduation. Perfect Mexican daughters never abandon their family. But Julia is not your perfect American daughter. That was Olga’s role.
Copies of the book are available at the front desk of the library.
St. Paul’s worship schedule
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oswego has set its worship schedule for Holy Week, which begins next week.
Maundy Thursday
5:45 p.m., meal (The Last Supper); 6:30 p.m., service.
Good Friday (the Crucifixion of Jesus) 6:30 p.m., services.
Easter (Resurrection Sunday)
9 a.m., breakfast; 10 a.m., services.
April 24
5 to 7 p.m., Chicken Annie’s fundraiser supper, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Fifth and Iowa, Oswego. Proceeds benefit St. Paul’s youth attending a national conference this summer.
St. Vincent’s closed on holy days
St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1122 Main, will be closed for the following Easter week holidays: Good Friday on April 18; Holy Saturday on April 19.
Farmers Market
The Parsons Farmers Market will open on Saturday, April 26. The final day of the market is expected to be Oct. 31.
Hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. The market will remain on Broadway Avenue in Forest Park across from the Labette Community College gym. Senior voucher applications for the market will be available starting June 2 at Parsons Public Library.
Visit the library between 2 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for assistance with the vouchers.
Gardening series
The Parsons Public Library is hosting a monthly series starting this month called Gardening 101, where participants will learn gardening basics.
All sessions start at 6 p.m. on Thursdays and meet in the library. There will be no session in August.
The first session is on Thursday, April 24, on getting a garden started. The May 15 session will be on garden blooms. The third session will be June 26 on garden to table and a cooking demonstration. The July 24 session will be on canning and pickling. The Sept. 25 session will be on garden cleanup and seed collection. The Oct. 23 session will be on spring bulbs.
Blood drive at Labette Health
The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the sole supplier of blood, platelets and plasma to patients at 45 area health care facilities, is planning a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at the Cardinal Event Center, 1306 Main.
Donors will receive a CBCO T-shirt.
The CBCO is also partnering with four area attractions to offer free admission for donors who will receive an Ozarks Adventure Pass. The pass gives free admission to two of these attractions, The Discovery Center, Springfield, Missouri; The Scott Family Amazeum, Bentonville, Arkansas; Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Branson, Missouri; or Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Parsons Livestock Auction
On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,100 cattle.
Choice cows 145-157, canners- cutters 135-145, shelly cows 134 and down, bred cows up to $3,100, pairs up to $4,075; choice bulls 180-200.50, lower grades 179 and down.
Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 350-485; 400-500, 340-463; 500-600, 280-407; 600-700, 267-355.50; 700-800, 270-299; 800 and over, 225-283.
Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 310-445; 400-500, 330-386; 500-600, 280-350; 600-700, 240-309; 700-800, 240-299; 800 and over, 225-283.
