Dropping their fourth straight game after a 2-2 start to the campaign, the Parsons Vikings fell to the Fort Scott Tigers, 170, in SEK League softball play on Tuesday.
Parsons pitcher Adalyn Morris kept Fort Scott in check through two innings as the Tigers led 2-0.
But four runs from the Tigers in the third frame then 11 in the fourth broke the levee. 11 of Fort Scott’s 17 runs in the game were unearned.
“We’ve got to make plays in the field,” Parsons head coach Shelby Liska said. “I challenged Addy to work ahead in the count, stay confident and trust her defense. She did just that. She had a great mentality. We just have to make the plays on guaranteed outs. It’ll come together.”
With Fort Scott leading 6-0 in the bottom of the third, Parsons loaded the bases with no outs and the heart of the order coming to the plate. The Vikings left the inning with no production.
“Those girls have such high expectations of themselves,” Liska said. “They know their role is to drive those runs in. Sometimes, it becomes that mental aspect instead of trusting what they know. They all want to be the hero. I love that mentality. But they have to adjust in the moment.”
Parsons was limited to five hits in the contest — one apiece from Chassis Baker, Kera Haviland, Braelyn Mitchell, Kadence Ball and Laila Haviland.
The Vikings now sit at 2-6 overall and 1-3 in SEK League play.

Parsons traveled to Cherryvale on Thursday then hosts Erie on Friday before traveling to Chanute on Tuesday.
“I do think that there’s momentum moving forward,” Liska said. “We’re manifesting and getting through this week. We knew Fort Scott would be tough. But I do think that it’ll come together. This team has the right work ethic. One night, our hitting, pitching and fielding is all going to mesh together.”
