WEATHERBY, Mo. — Helen Joeann Saunders, 85, Weatherby, Missouri, died at home on Monday, April 7, 2025.
She was born July 19, 1939, in Parks to Mack and Laura Hurd. She graduated from Parsons Junior College in 1958 and Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1991. She married Frank D. Saunders Dec. 16, 1961, and they made their home in the Kansas City area until 1999 when they moved to Weatherby.
During her career as a registered nurse, Saunders was an assistant clinical instructor at Bethany Medical Center, a medical- surgical nurse at Lakeside Hospital and taught medical terminology at Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Saunders was active in the Girl Scouts of America and the Parent-Teacher Association for many years. She was an active member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and the Baptist Women on Mission. She was also a member of the Weatherby Coffee Friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Frank, of the home; daughters, Gina Reneé Saunders of Hamilton, Missouri, and Kelly Lynn Halstead and her husband, Tony, of Kansas City, Missouri; her sisters, Mary Ruth Vinson, Gloria June Gardner and her husband, Steve, all of Parsons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister. Helen Joeann Saunders was a member of the Missouri Cremation Service. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to Hopewell Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
