TAMPA, Fla. — Rodney Eugene “Rod” Nally, 67, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Tampa, Florida.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1957, in Winfield, and Rod lived a life marked by dedication to his family, education and personal passions.
Rod was the son of Helen (Yeager) and Howard Roosevelt Nally. He grew up in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School before pursuing higher education at Kansas State University then at Washburn University. There, he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal law that reflected his strong sense of justice and commitment to public service. After serving as an officer for the Topeka Police Department, he was elected sheriff of Neosho County. After law enforcement, he continued with a career as a purchasing agent.
Throughout his life, Rod remained deeply connected to religion and his values. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Erie and Faith Baptist Church of Joplin, where he found spiritual grounding and community.
Rod leaves behind three sons, Jamin Nally (Annette), Derek Nally (Chelsey) and Garet Nally. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Emma Nally, Tanner Nally and Danny Nally, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also remembered by his sister, Cindy Pearce.
Rod shared his later years with his wife, Mary Hathaway. Outside of his professional pursuits and family life, Rod found great enjoyment in fishing. Whether casting a line on a quiet river or sharing stories with his children, he found peace on the water. Rod’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, coworker and friend.
The family will receive friends at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3. A private family memorial service will be held later at East Hill Cemetery. Leave online condolences at www.wallfuneralservices. com.
