Connecting yesterday’s farm life to today, the Wildcat Extension District will offer a modern homesteading skills workshop series on Thursdays in May at 6 p.m. in Oswego.
The workshops will be held every Thursday at 6 p.m. for four weeks starting on May 8. Topics covered are Growing Your Own Mushrooms, Starting Sourdough Bread, Backyard Pigs and Garden Geometry.
Participants will learn how to grow oyster mushrooms in straw bags and lion’s mane and shiitake mushrooms in logs. They will also learn how to make sourdough and learn how to start their own sourdough bread. Fundamentals of swine care will also be taught with a focus on low-cost, sustainable practices suitable for rural or homebased setups. The final topics is tips for maximizing the efficiency of a garden plot, including topics like vertically, crop rotation and different approaches to design.
