CHERRYVALE — Hosting one of the most grueling cross country races in Kansas, Parsons welcomed local racers to Big Hill Lake on Thursday.
Parsons’ Colten Carson won the boys’ 5K race with a time of 20:03, edging out second-place finisher Zayne Gabern of Southeast by 19 seconds.
Southeast won the team standings in the boys race with 32 points. Anderson County was runner-up with 49 points, followed by Coffeyville (50) and Columbus (83).
In the girls’ race, which featured nine runners, Baxter Springs’ Bailey Campbell won the race with a time of 27:02. Kendyl Renn of Southeast took runner-up at 27:58.
Team scores weren’t registered in the girls race.
