Oswego schools update

The Oswego USD 504 school year is off to a great start. It is hard to believe that we have completed a full month of school. Our first month has been highlighted with new faces at the buildings.

New teachers include Tami Johnson, Beth Fuller, Corinna Walker, Maresa Kemper, Heather Gardner and Jeremy Moss. We have several new support personnel in the district as well. There have been many activities that have started. We have the after-school program at Neosho Heights. Over 30 kids participate in that program. All of our sports and activity teams are in their seasons. We have good participation rates in all of the junior high and high school offerings. Our school play auditions have taken place and they will be performing “Clue” later this fall. We want to say a big thank you to: The Booster Club, POMS, PTO, and Indian Muscle for all of their continued support.

In addition, we had a number of churches donate school supplies and snacks at the beginning of the year. We have two new building principals who are sharing new ideas with their faculty and staff. Cara Johnson is the new principal at Service Valley Charter Academy and James Dawson II is the new principal at the junior/senior high school. Service Valley Charter Academy is getting a new stucco exterior during September and October. We have some important dates coming up on the calendar. Sept. 27 is picture day. Sept. 30 is an in-service day. Oct. 11 is football homecoming and we are going to have the downtown parade! It is also the end of the first quarter of school. Our KESA accreditation peer review is Oct. 17. Oct. 29 and 30 are Parent Teacher Conferences. Halloween “trunk or treat” downtown. There is no school on Nov. 1. Then, believe it, or not, only three weeks until Thanksgiving!
