Offensive woes for the Parsons Vikings reached an apex in Week 5 as they were shut out by the Frontenac Raiders, 21-0, at Marvel Park on Friday night.
Frontenac scored all 21 points in the first half as the scoreboard didn’t change in the second half.
“I was proud of our defensive effort. In the first half, our defense was probably on the field for 20 minutes,” Parsons head coach Jeff Schibi said. “Whenever you’re on the field for that long and playing against a style of offense that Frontenac has, it’s easy to wear you down. We’ve just got to find a way to manufacture points. Maybe it’s on special teams. But we’ve got to get more creative on offense. Somebody has to step up and make some plays.”
Parsons was able to amass just 60 yards of total offense — 38 on the ground and 22 through the air — against the Raiders. The Vikings ran just one play in Frontenac territory, and it ended with an interception.
“Frontenac has done that to every team,” Schibi said. “They’ve almost shut out every single team they’ve played. So we’re not the only ones that struggled against them. But that’s no excuse. We have to sustain drives and score points, or we’re not going to win many football games this year.”
Trey Logan was 5-of-12 passing for 22 yards while Logan and Da’karyi Jones each led the Vikings with 15 yards rushing.
The loss dropped Parsons to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in district play. Frontenac improved to 5-0 and 1-0, respectively.
“Our goal of being a district champion has been thwarted,” Schibi said. “But we can still make a playoff run if we can play defense the way we have been and find a way to score points. We can still be a scary team. But scoring zero points isn’t going to get it done.”

Parsons will hit the road on Thursday night to face Neodesha in district play.
“I know they’ve had their struggles this season just like we have,” Schibi said. “If we can play good defense, I like our chances. But it’ll come down to putting points on the board.”
