Michael A. “Mike” May, 72, of Parsons died at 1:02 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at Labette Health.
He was born July 7, 1952, at St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Robert “Bob” Griggsby and Ann Carol (Baer) May. He grew up in the St. Louis area and attended school there. He moved with his family to Lansing, Michigan, where he graduated high school in 1970. He then attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. After completing high school he moved to Kansas City and worked at a radio station. He also worked in television broadcasting and DJ’d. In 1984, he moved to Parsons and began working at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center where he worked in audio visual. He retired in 2011.
On Nov. 18, 2017, he married Treva D. Fergson at the Westside Christian Church at Parsons. She survives of the home.
He was a member of the Westside Christian Church. He was also a past member of the Parsons Lions Club. He enjoyed music and played the trumpet in past years and more recently the guitar. He played in praise bands at various churches.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, India May of Parsons; a granddaughter, Artemis May of Parsons; two nephews; a great-niece; his stepmother, Luise May of Georgia; and a sister, Sue May of Omaha, Nebraska.
His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Westside Christian Church with Pastor Doug Baty officiating.
