State Sen. Virgil Peck, a Havana Republican, won re-election Tuesday.
He faced Democrat Jerry Reeves of Altamont. Peck won 20,517 to 7,749. He serves the 15th Senate District.
He said he was pleased by Tuesday’s balloting. He said Reeves was a “nice man and ran a respectful campaign. I thank him for his decency and wish him well.”
He said Republicans in the House and Senate picked up seats and he hopes this leads to more tax relief.
“That (tax relief) has been and will remain my focus as a member of the Senate,” Peck said.
“Of course, I do have plans for other legislation (primarily agriculture-related), but tax cuts will be number one on my agenda.”
He was recently named to the 23-member Special Committee on Legislative Budget.
As a member of this committee, he will have a seat at the table as lawmakers spend five days taking an early look at how and where they can save taxpayer money, he said.
In other legislative races, state Rep. Dan Goddard, a Parsons Republican, won re-election to his 7th House District seat after defeating challenger Vicki Pribble, a Parsons Democrat, 6,471 to 2,338.
State Rep. Ken Collins defeated challenger Melesia Rhodes 7,367 to 3,281 for the 2nd District seat.
