Cherryvale teens injured in van versus semi collision

CHERRYVALE — Two Cherryvale teenagers suffered serious injuries in a van versus semi collision on U.S. 169 at County Road 4800 south of Cherryvale Thursday.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at 4:13 p.m. Thursday.

A 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Chloe A. Lowry, 14, Cherryvale, had stopped at a stop sign on CR 4800 east of the highway and entered the highway, failing to yield to a 1996 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer driven by Braden S. Harvey, 33, Burlington.

Harvey tried to steer the semi into the southbound lane of U.S. 169, but Grand Caravan still collided with Harvey’s trailer, according to the KHP. Lowry and her passenger, Rachel M. Eichhorn, 14, Cherryvale, were taken to Labette Health in Parsons with suspected serious injuries.

Harvey was not injured. All occupants wore seat belts.
