GROVE, Okla. — Elvera “Ellie” M. Montee, 75, of Grove, Oklahoma, formerly of Parsons, passed away at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1948, in Wichita to Vernon “Buck” and Betty Mae (Houser) Lewis. Ellie grew up in Parsons and attended Labette County Community High School until her sophomore year in 1964, when her family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She graduated from College High School in Bartlesville and then from Labette Community College with an associate’s degree.
She worked for over 20 years in accounts payable at the former Peabody TecTank in Parsons.
Ellie was an active member of the Parsons community and volunteered many hours at St. Vincent de Paul Society. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and camping at Grand Lake. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. Ellie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Ellie married Robert “Rob” Montee on Sept. 2, 1967, at Central Avenue Christian Church in Parsons. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Rob Montee and his wife, Amy, of Parsons; two daughters, Brandi Palmer and her husband, Marty, of Grove, Oklahoma, and Robyn Baker and her husband, Brent, of Parsons; grandchildren, Lauren Volmer, Riley Volmer (Miranda), Tate Volmer (Abby), Janel Baker (Colten), Braden Baker, Baylee Montee (Tyler) and Eli Montee; great-grandchildren, Lily Volmer, Zander Spates and Maverick Volmer; her mother, Betty Lewis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; a brother, Craig Lewis (Jodi) of Del Norte, Colorado; sisters, Sandra Lewis of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Debbie Riley (Jim) of Collinsville, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Margaret Scott (Larry) of Dennis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her mother-inlaw, Margaret Baker.
A rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Carson Wall Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the rosary until 8 p.m. The family suggests memorials to St. Vincent de Paul, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
