OTES Giving Tuesday
The Parsons Area Community Foundation’s Giving Tuesday Match Day will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Labette Community College Cardinal Event Center, 1306 Main. This is an opportunity for the public to support community organizations.
At the library
Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.
MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 6 p.m., paint and sip.
TUESDAY: 10 a.m., sensory story hour for ages birth to 3; 1 to 3 p.m., veterans benefits assistance; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.
WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m. story hour for ages 2 to 6; 4 p.m., afternoon story hour.
THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens; 4 to 8 p.m., family portraits for free. Bring your camera or use your phone camera. No animals, no registration. First come, first served.
FRIDAY, Dec. 6: 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.
Erie, St. Paul blood drive
ST. PAUL — The Erie-St. Paul American Red Cross blood drive will be from 1 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the St. Francis Parish Hall in St. Paul. Call (800) 733-2767 to make an appointment.
Learn cheese making Dec. 7
MCCUNE — Kathy Flora of Flora Farm Produce will teach you how to make cheese in many flavors at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the McCune Farm to Market. The cost for the class is $40. Everything will be provided including packaging to take home what you make. Call (620) 232-1772 to reserve your spot.
Christmas parade
The annual Parsons Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in downtown Parsons.
This year’s theme is “Songs of Christmas.”
Audubon Society potluck
The Southeast Kansas Audubon Society will have its annual Christmas potluck dinner at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Parsons Arboretum, 2004 Briggs Ave., at the corner of 21st and Briggs in Glenwood Park in Parsons. Those attending are asked to bring covered dishes of food to share and your own table service. Drinks will be provided. The dinner will be followed by a trivia quiz featuring Southeast Kansas flora and fauna.

Genealogy research available
Genealogy/family history research assistance will continue to be available during the Parsons Museum and Historical Society’s off-season schedule, from November to April 2025.
The research assistance dates for walk-ins will be on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month, 1 to 4 p.m., when the museum is open on Dec. 7 and 8, Jan. 4 and 5, Feb. 1 and 2, March 1 and 2 and April 5 and 6. The museum will resume its regular season hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m., on May 2, 2025.
