Carl L. Yockey, 88, of Parsons passed away at 2:16 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at Labette Health.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1936, in South Mound to Samuel R. and Helen H. (Speaker) Yockey. Carl grew up in South Mound and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1954.
Carl had worked for Meadow Sweet Creamery, Howell’s Ready Mix, Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and for over 20 years for La-Forge and Budd Construction Co. For over 30 years he was a weekend milk delivery truck driver for Mid America Dairy and made many lifetime memories through his customers. Carl enjoyed horses, horse pulling contests and driving the fields checking on his cattle. In earlier years he was involved in a bowling league and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities. He was a converted Dallas Cowboys fan to an avid Chiefs fan. His children called him “The Baby Whisperer” as he had a knack for calming babies. Carl was a hard worker and was very devoted to his family.
Carl was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, serving on the church council and school board for several years. He was a Fourth degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Council 643, and served as treasurer for decades. He also held the office of grand knight. He was instrumental in the Knights of Columbus Friday night bingo.
He married Louise Vitt on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, David Yockey and his wife, Trudy, of Parsons, Diane Harper of Parsons, Carla Winter and her husband, Jim, of Columbia, Missouri, Lori Nash and her husband, Larry, of Parsons, Debbie Chavez and her husband, Mike, of Parsons and Brian Yockey and his wife, Susan, of Shawnee; 21 grandchildren, Nicole Jameson, Stephanie Larson (Brandin), Joel Yockey (Veronica), Kyle Yockey (Jenni), Miranda Mordica (Nathan), Brendon Harper (Stacy), Nick Harper (Cassidy), Jenae Austin (Justin), Ross Harper (Jenny), Emily Huckla (Drew), Staci Reinert (Alex), Adam Winter (Valerie), Kayan Myers (Adam), Trevor Nash (Lakkin), Bridget Merchant (Cyle), Ayvri Nash, Bryce Chavez (Rachael), Chandler Chavez, Grant Yockey, Kathryn Yockey and Drew Yockey; 33 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Yockey (Brenda) of Alpharetta, Georgia; and many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws, including brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Harper; a brother, Jerry Yockey; and two sisters, Eileen Yockey and Wanda Lacy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
