Arnold G. Ward

Arnold G. Ward, 85, of St. Paul died at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul.

He was born Nov. 9, 1939, at St. Paul, a son of Add and Elsie Irene (Holding) Ward. He grew up at St. Paul and attended school there, graduating from St. Paul High School in 1958. He then moved to California, where he was employed at the Pacific Lumber Co. In 1963, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Germany. He returned to Fort Hood and was discharged in 1965. He then returned to California and continued working at Pacific Lumber. He later returned to St. Paul and worked as a machinist for the Katy Railroad. He was employed there from 1969 until 1987. He began working for the Neosho County Highway Department in 1988 and retired in 2002.

On Jan. 31, 1967, he married Mary Alice Barnes at Eureka, California. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2003. He married Nancy Carol (Eggen) Westhoff on March 19, 2009, at Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.

He was a member of United Chapel at rural McCune. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and in later years, bowling.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Daniels and her husband, Kenny, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Glenita Johnson and her husband, Tim, of Longview, Washington; three stepchildren, Jim Westhoff and his wife, JoAnn, of Chanute, Rodney Westhoff of Moran and Randy Westhoff and his wife, Lorie, of Erie; 17 grandchildren, Shane Hill of Madras, Oregon, Jordyn Daniels of Wilsonville, Oregon, Whitney Daniels of San Diego, California, Aaron Daniels of Bentonville, Arkansas, Jamie Westhoff of Carthage, Missouri, Jacqueline Pelkey of Chanute, Jonathan Westhoff of Chanute, Jillian Westhoff of Chanute, Alyssa Blevins of Moran, Alysha Michaels of Uniontown, Kenleigh Westhoff of Iola, Marlee Westhoff of Iola, Gennie Mullen of Walnut, Samantha Bohrer of Erie, Tyler Westhoff of Savonburg, Tucker Westhoff of Erie and Devon Westhoff of Erie; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Don, Ray, Tom, Albert, Ronnie and Marvin Ward; a sister, Opal Beard; and a son, Keith Ward, who died in 1985.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home at St. Paul with Mark Pearson officiating. Inurnment will be in Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. The family suggests memorials to the Osage Mission Museum, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O.
