College trustees meet Dec. 10
The Labette Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the Cardinal Event Center.
Community Choir sings on Sunday
The Community Choir and Orchestra will perform in a collaborative concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Parsons High School Auditorium, 3030 Morton.
The band comprises student musicians, teachers of music and other musicians from the Labette Community College campus and the community. The band will feature some favorite Christmas classics and contemporary tunes performed under the direction of Julia McCabe, director of band.
The choir will feature community vocalists in a rendition of “O Come, Emmanuel” with Ruth Penner as a cello soloist, choir and piano. The orchestra and choir will conclude the concert with the “Hallelujah Chorus” by George Frederic Handel. Scott Nelson is the director of the community choir and orchestra.
USD 503 school board to meet
The Parsons USD 503 Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in the Parsons High School Vo-Tech building. The meeting is broadcast on YouTube.
KWA to meet in Parsons Dec. 11
The Kansas Water Authority (KWA) will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Road in Parsons.

The KWA is responsible for advising the governor, Legislature and director of the Kansas Water Office on water policy issues. They also ensure that water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans as well as serve as advisers of the Kansas Water Plan. The KWA was established in 1981 and consists of 13 voting members who are appointed by the governor or legislative leadership. State agency directors serve as ex-officio members.
SKIL hosts holiday party today
SKIL Resource Center will host a holiday party from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 6, at First Baptist Church, 1621 Main.
Southeast Kansas heroes will be honored for performing CPR and saving a life. Duke Mason will perform and games and raffles will be part of the event. Annual awards will also be distributed.

WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m. story hour for ages 2 to 6; 4 p.m., afternoon story hour; 6:30 p.m., “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” trivia night at Cherry on Top, 1812 Broadway.

Parsons Livestock Auction
On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 2,450 cattle.
Choice cows 118-126, canners-cutters 107-117, shelly cows 106 and down, bred cows up to $2,650, pairs up to $3,400; choice bulls 160-178, lower grades 159 and down.

Erie, St. Paul blood drive to be Dec. 11

Learn cheese making Sunday
MCCUNE — Kathy Flora of Flora Farm Produce will teach you how to make cheese in many flavors at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the McCune Farm to Market. The cost for the class is $40. Everything will be provided including packaging to take home what you make. Call (620) 232-1772 to reserve your spot.
Kelly: Fly flags at half-staff Saturday
Gov. Laura Kelly on Thursday ordered flags throughout Kansas to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds and facilities from sunup until sundown on Saturday, Dec. 7, in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
“On the anniversary of this unforgettable tragedy, we’re reminded of our service members’ immense courage and sacrifice on Dec. 7, 1941,” Kelly said.
“As we reflect on the 83rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor, I encourage all Kansans to join me in honoring those who fought for our freedom then, and continue to defend our country now.”
