SANDUSKY HONORED: Norma Sandusky (left), the Altamont Public Library board president, received the Southeast Kansas Library System Excellence Award Tuesday for her efforts to help the library during a transition period. She is pictured with Marilyn Nelson, the current director of the Altamont library. This award is given by SEKLS to recognize exemplary service. Sandusky was nominated by her peers for her leadership during a transitional time the library experienced in the recent past. She went above and beyond to assure the library would remain open for its patrons when a staffing change occurred. Sandusky’s family, several APL board members (past and present), city staff and numerous friends were there to support Sandusky. The award included a trophy, a $1,000 cash award for the library and Sandusky’s name added to a traveling plaque.
